Types: AR, Interactive apps

The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism wanted to inspire interest in the Caribbean destination and support its PR strategy. Working with White Tiger PR, we created an AR app that lets users explore the islands virtually. Featuring 3D models, videos and animations, the app showcases the scenery, culture and activities – putting a taste of island life in users’ hands.

The challenge

The Cayman Islands consist of three islands in the western Caribbean, covering 102 square miles of beaches, culture and adventure. To attract more visitors, the Department of Tourism sought to create a memorable experience that could engage PR and media contacts, helping spread the word more widely. The challenge was to capture the essence of the islands in a format that was both accessible and immersive. Any solution had to be visually engaging, simple to use and flexible enough to be expanded for tourists in the future – ensuring the app could serve both promotional and practical purposes.

The process

We designed an AR app built around 3D models of the three Cayman Islands. Launching without the need for a marker, the app allowed users to place and explore each island anywhere. Hotspots on the models opened up videos, images and facts about local attractions and culture, while subtle animations – such as sailing boats and swaying palm trees – added vibrancy. Users could toggle between islands, while additional sections of the app included destination information, activity ideas and a gallery. All content was powered by a CMS, enabling easy updates and future expansion for on-the-ground visitor use.

The outcome

The AR app gave the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism a striking way to showcase the destination. PR and media professionals could explore the islands virtually, discovering stories and inspiration that encouraged them to share the experience more widely. The app was made available on the App Store and Google Play, with a promotional video created to boost downloads at media events. Combining rich visuals, interactivity and flexibility for future updates, the experience successfully positioned the Cayman Islands as a vibrant, must-visit destination – offering a fresh way to connect with audiences and drive awareness through immersive technology.
